I've Got Nothing......

Okay, so I am officially in a funk...I think I hid it well til now, but seriously, if you knew how painful this card was for me today, you would be whining too. I started this MONSTERpiece at 11am and am just now done(4:30pm). How is that for a creative process. The harder I try to make a card, the more NOTHING comes to me.... she who has deadlines cannot have NOTHING!! I tried originally to make a shaker card using coffee, but it really wasn't that good, so I threw it away. Unfortunately, I had coffee on my mind by then, so I couldn't think of anything else to do for the challenge(btw, the Ways To Use It challenge was to use something from your kitchen cabinet). After thinking and thinking, I finally decided to die my twill tape with coffee. So once it was dark enough, I had to wait for it to dry. By the time it was dry, I was so sick of this card that I just threw it together. On another note, yes, I am aware that it isn't that bad, even my DH says so, but I think the process just wore me out and now I am to the point that I won't be happy with anything that I do. So am I alone here or what??? Please, someone tell me that this has happened to you...please??
Thanks for stopping by and listening to my rant, hope you have a fabulous day!!

  1. Jessica,
I can't believe you have the same mental blocks I do! I've put some "doozies" together, let me tell ya! And I know what a marathon stamping session feels like, too. After all that time spent on a card, it makes you want to pull your hair out. But, your coffee card here is gorgeous. I bet it SMELLS wonderful, too! I am a big fan of yours and always take the time to peek at your cards on SCS. I have a ton of your cards in my favorites :) Thanks for sharing your story of frustration. I know EXACTLY how you feel, as do many others out there I'm sure!

I totally hear you when you say you worked on something so long that you're just sick of it. From a fresh set of eyes though, it's a cool card.

  7. It's not so bad! Everybody has those moments where you think "I just spent this many hours on this ugly thing!" I try to walk away when I'm really frustrated, but the card will haunt me until I finish it! Just toss it in the card pile and move on! As we say in my house, tomorrow will be a better day.

  8. I think your card is fantastic! Then again, I love all your work! Walk away for a while and come back to it tomorrow -- I bet you'll like it better!! :)

I've been in a bit of a funk lately too -- I'm just not in love with the stuff I'm making! Maybe the summer heat is getting to us!

  9. Oh yes! I've been there and experienced that Jessie. I think we all do at times (especially when there are deadlines involved). Of course even with your stamper's block you still came up with a wonderful card - love it! :)

  10. Your card is fantastic! I totally understand when the mojo is on low-low. When that happens to me I usually blog surf and one of the places I usually end up is here! Honestly, you are sooooo talented!

  11. This probably won't make you feel any better, but this is often my "norm" when making a card!

I got totally shafted in the creative gene pool department and abundantly blessed on the athletic side so I often struggle with putting a card together. I rarely have an idea in my head or an instant "I know what I'm going to do with this challenge, sketch, etc.". So for what it is worth, I would love to have your creative funk cards be my "normal" cards - LOL!!

So why do I keep making cards you ask?! Guess it is my competitive nature and not wanting to lose to an inanimate object and the challenge of actually being able to create something I like. Maybe I should pick up a few sports again - lol!!!

Hang in there, Jessie. Your mojo will return in abundance, and in the meantime, I still enjoy seeing your creations (((hugs))) If you feel bad about it some day, just think of me struggling away.

  14. Ahhhh Jessie.........even in your "funk".........you create STUNNING masterpieces!!! I ADORE this coffee card and I think dying the twill in coffee was totally genius!!! As for creative funks.....I really think they come and go.........like every other emotion and you may find a good quality "date night" with dh out on the town will take some of the stress of deadlines away!! Big hugs!!! You are definitely NOT alone in feeling tapped out sometimes!!!

  15. oMG, that happens to me all the time! You are totally NOT alone here! And this card is really great--but I know what you mean--you work so long and stress out on a piece, that by the time it's actually complete, you are drained of energy and excitement for it (at least, that is my experience). Don't worry, you are way too talented for it to last and even though it can kick your butt, your readers would never know it--your work is contstantly fabulous! big hug and relax!

  16. Don't worry Jessie, we all get that way! And I LOVE the card...it turned out gorgeous even if you don't like it! :) But I also know using coffee or tea to stain ribbon takes WAY too long!!

    Huggs!!

  23. wow, I can't tell you struggled at all-it's really FANTASTIC! I think we all have those kind of moments. It's best for me to walk away from my craft area & chill, get my mind on something else like a good book, blurfing, watching a movie or talking to my niece on the phone! that always cheers me up!

  24. Are you kidding - that sort of thing happens to me all the time!!! I think your card is fabulous, even if it did stress you out!

  26. I sent you a message about the mental block thing, but wanted to leave you a quick note about your adorable card. First is one of my favorite themes in the world so that alone makes it a winner. Secondly, it turned out great. Over all it was a hard challenge and I think you totally made it work! Hugs!
